A Cotswolds Log Cabin Break

Disclosure: we received a complimentary 5-day stay at Log House Holidays, organised by VisitWiltshire. All opinions are our own.

Postcode (location): GL7 6ED (on the opposite side of the road the SatNav shows)

Sitting in the heart of England, the gorgeous Cotswolds, Log House Holidays is just a 90min drive from the West of London. The best way to get to the eco-friendly log cabin retreat (and about) is by car, although other options include train or bus (with a taxi ride), or even helicopter!

All cabins, small and larger, come with seclusion, a private beach, traditional Finnish hot tub, unspoilt views of the lake and its wildlife, log burner, row boat, fire pit and much more.

Le Cabin

We stayed at Moondara, which sleeps 8 and has its own private island! With 4 spacious bedrooms and 3 bathrooms (there's a bedroom and a bathroom on the ground floor with full disabled access), the hideaway is perfect for a large family or a group break.

There is ample space indoors and outdoors, and floor heating, making it ideal for a stay in all seasons.

Outside Moondara there is a BBQ for those famish, decked terrace for alfresco dining, swinging chairs to read a book or just take the view in (binoculars are available in the kitchen area to use), and of course the large hot tub, which we used every day (and night), despite the very cold weather.

With a lot of storage and hanging space, the lobby is great for those with dogs or to keep mud away from the rest of the cabin.

The large kitchen is equipped with everything need and more to prepare a gourmet meal (Papa will have no excuse not to cook here when we come back!), with the kitchen table boasting stunning views of the lake all day long). There are shops within a few minutes drive from Log House Holidays, and they do deliver directly to the cabins so we recommend placing an order ahead of your stay if you will cook.

The lounge features two big sofas, a log fire burner and, our favourite feature, a tree that goes from floor to ceiling!

The bedrooms are spacious and with a lot of light, and beds very comfortable. We loved to be able to see outdoors from all of them, and to watch the sky from the velux.

The shower gels provided in the bathrooms (all equipped with a bathtub and shower, and large and fluffy towels) are from of Maman's favourite brands, Aromatherapy Associates.

We stayed in the winter and the eco-friendly heating system worked so well that we had to open the windows from time to time!

Activities on Site

From bird and wildlife watching to roving on the lake, reading a book on a swing chair or paddle boarding / canoeing, there are enough activities (some with a supplement) on site to not need (or want) to leave! Bicycles can be hired, and a beauty therapist can even be booked in advance, bringing the spa into your cabin!

Our friends Hattie and Woody from The Cornish Dog , who joined us for the stay, took us on a tour of the lake on the roving boat. Here is their flufftastic video of the stay:

We also did a lot of walking around the beautiful surroundings. Maman recommends keeping dogs on lead on the paths around the lake and to be careful as, whilst the cabins are secluded and there are hedges providing privacy, there are roads nearby where some cars drive fast.
